Oleksandr Horynchyn
Oleksandr Horynchyn was born in the village of Berestove in the Kharkiv region. In 2016, he began working as a track master at the Lozova railway distance, and later as a track fitter at the Pavlohrad railway distance.
He was respected among his colleagues for his professionalism and strong character. Oleksandr's supervisor, Serhiy Panchyshyn, shared: “He had a higher education, organizational skills, and practical experience as a track master; he knew his job perfectly. The foremen often consulted him on how to do things better and faster. He disliked pointless work, so he frequently offered relevant advice to his colleagues and defended his views to management. He was reliable and worked diligently. He integrated well into the team and worked excellently in collaboration.”
In January 2023, Oleksandr was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served as the commander of a reconnaissance company. Oleksandr stated: “All those who came to our land will get what they deserve; they have no place here!”
Commander of the reconnaissance company Oleksandr Horynchyn was killed in action on May 18, 2024, during combat near the village of Ivanivka in the Kharkiv region. He was just 32 years old.
The sister of the fallen, Olha Manzura, wrote on her Facebook page: “You always protected me. Even when I didn’t want to, you helped me with my math homework because I wasn’t good at it. Always nearby, even when far away. As the younger sister, I was sometimes unfair, but you loved me unconditionally. We could call each other and talk about all sorts of little things, then say, ‘Take care of yourself!’ ‘And you take care of yourself!’ Since the beginning of the war, these words have taken on a different meaning…”
Oleksandr is survived by his parents, an older brother, and a sister.
The Pavlohrad railway distance and the entire railway community are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of their colleague and hero. We express our heartfelt condolences to the parents, brother, and sister of Oleksandr Horynchyn.
