Oleksandr Opalinskyi
Oleksandr was born in the city of Zhmerinka, Vinnytsia region. Since May 2013, he worked in the railway sector, dedicating 10 years of his life to it. He was a wagon inspector and repairman at the wagon maintenance point (PTO) in Vinnytsia, part of the operational wagon depot in Zhmerinka.
On the morning of February 24, he went to the military enlistment office with the words: "Who if not me?" and "If I don't go to defend you there, they will come here." He had military experience dating back to 2014 in the ATO and contract service in 2018.
Oleksandr was killed on August 31, 2022, during an artillery shelling while carrying out combat missions in Mykolaiv region.
Colleagues remember Oleksandr as a sincere, open, honest, brave, and fearless friend with a strong character. He loved fishing and mushroom picking, and dreamed of having his own house and a shelter for kittens with his daughter.
For his personal courage, he was awarded the Presidential Badge of Ukraine for participating in the anti-terrorist operation.
Oleksandr is survived by his wife, daughter, parents, and sister.
The team at the Operational Wagon Depot in Zhmerinka, JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia," bows its head in deep sorrow for their colleague. The inspector-repairman, who did not hesitate to go to the front with the words "Who if not me?", has fallen. His fearlessness, strong character, and shattered dream of a home and a shelter for kittens are the tragic price he paid for Ukraine. Eternal memory and honor to the Hero!
