Oleksandr ZHUK
Oleksandr was born in Dnipro. He worked as a trackman in the Synelnykove railway division, dedicating over 33 years to the railway profession.
He repeatedly approached the military enlistment office, saying, “My son is defending the country, and I must go to fight!” On April 30, 2022, he joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine, serving as a sapper in the 1st Engineer-Sapper Division.
52-year-old Senior Soldier Oleksandr Zhuk heroically died on October 3, 2022, near the village of Zolota Balka in the Kherson region. His combat comrades reported that he shielded a mine with his body, saving a comrade's life.
Colleagues remember Oleksandr as a reliable and selfless friend and an honorable person. For his family, he was a pillar of support, a caring father, and a loving husband. His mother, wife, and one of Oleksandr's sons are also railway workers.
Oleksandr is survived by his wife Alla, sons Serhii and Dmytro, and mother Nina Andriivna.
The team at the Synelnykove railway division of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" mourns the exceptional feat of their colleague with eternal sorrow. A trackman with 33 years of experience, who voluntarily went to the front following his son, died while saving a comrade from a mine. His self-sacrifice, reliability, and dedication to the Motherland are a testament to courage that will forever be etched in the memory of the railway family. Eternal Glory to the Hero!
