Petro KHOMYCH
Petro Khomych was born in the village of Kolky in the Rivne region. In 2019, he began working on the railway as a trackman at the Rivne Track Machine Station, part of the "Center for Construction and Repair of Tracks." The war found him at the Professional Development Center for Personnel of Ukrzaliznytsia in the city of Zolotonosha, where he was studying in courses for operators of railway construction machines for broad-gauge track layers. On February 24, 2022, everyone was evacuating from Zolotonosha, but Petro stayed behind, as he had come to acquire a new profession and had not yet completed the assignment from his instructor—to prepare notes. This was how responsible and demanding he was of himself.
On February 26, 2024, Petro was discharged into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On June 2 of the same year, while carrying out a combat mission near the settlement of Umanske in the Donetsk region, he sustained a mine-explosive head injury. Unfortunately, they could not save Petro; he died in the Vinnytsia Hospital named after Acad. O. I. Yushchenko.
Soldier Petro Khomych died from his injuries on June 11, 2024. He was just a month shy of his 29th birthday.
Friends recount that Petro was very determined and had great plans for the future. He was compassionate, with a big kind heart that had enough love for everyone, always striving to help others. In his free time, Petro visited the church, participated in services, and dreamed of gifting the church a valuable icon. He planned to get married, so he started renovations at home. He wanted to buy a car from a dealership, one that smelled of fresh paint.
Petro is survived by his mother, who is battling cancer, his father, who works at the Rivne Track Machine Station, and his twin brother Pavlo, who has also been serving in the Armed Forces since 2014.
The team at the Rivne Track Machine Station deeply mourns this irreparable loss and extends heartfelt condolences to the mother, father, brother, family, and loved ones of soldier Petro Khomych.
