Serhiy Kutsenko
Serhiy was born in the city of Pomichna, Kirovohrad region. He began his career on the railway in 1992 as a repair mechanic, and later became an assistant locomotive driver and then a locomotive driver at the Pomichna Locomotive Depot. He dedicated over 30 years of his life to the railway.
In 2006, for his diligent work, he was awarded the badge of "Honored Railway Worker." Colleagues remember him as a disciplined, responsible worker and a mentor to the youth, who willingly shared his experience and earned respect within the team.
On June 4, 2022, Serhiy was called up for military service as part of mobilization. He served in a separate motorized battalion as a sniper with the rank of sergeant major.
After an artillery shelling and direct combat engagement with the enemy during offensive operations in the vicinity of the settlement of Sukhy Stavok in the Kherson region, he was considered missing in action since September 4, 2022. Following a genetic examination, on February 21, 2024, Serhiy was identified and is regarded as having fallen on September 4, 2022, while performing a combat mission to defend his homeland.
Serhiy is survived by his wife and daughters.
The team at the Pomichna Locomotive Depot of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" bows their heads in profound sorrow for their colleague. A locomotive driver and "Honored Railway Worker" with 30 years of experience, who became a mentor to many at work, died as a sergeant major sniper. His identification after a year and a half only intensifies the pain but confirms that he fell as a Hero in battle. Eternal memory and everlasting honor!
