Vadym OTCHYCH
Vadym was born in the city of Apostolove, Dnipropetrovsk region. He graduated from vocational school No. 16 in the town of Zelenodolsk. He began working on the railway in 2001 as a track layer for the Apostolivska track distance, and since 2015, he has been a repairman for artificial structures.
He worked as a 4th category repairman for artificial structures at the Apostolivska track distance, dedicating over two decades to railway work.
He became the founder of a true railway and military dynasty: in the very first days of the war, Vadym went to the military enlistment office, and along with him, three of his sons—Maxym, Mykhailo, and Yurii—who were also employees of the same distance, joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Vadym served as an assistant grenade launcher in the 110th Inhulets Brigade. In May 2022, Vadym and two of his sons, Maksym and Yuriy, were injured, but after hospitalization, they returned to their unit. The third son, Mykhailo, was discharged due to serious injuries and returned to work at the distance. Vadym was killed during an offensive in Kherson region at the end of August. In the same battle, his son Maxym sustained his second injury.
51-year-old Vadym Otchych was killed on August 29, 2022, while performing a combat mission near the village of Olhyne in Kherson region.
Colleagues remember the Otchyches as hardworking, responsible, and true patriots, from whom their sons took example both at work and on the front lines.
Vadym is survived by his wife Natalia, sons Maksym, Mykhailo, Yuriy, and daughter Viktoriia.
The team of the Apostolivska track distance of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" feels the irreparable loss of their colleague. His heroic death and patriotic example for his three sons symbolize the resilience of a Ukrainian father and the entire railway family. Eternal Glory!
