Yuriy Lutsevych
Yuriy was born in the village of Vysoke, Borzna district, Chernihiv region. He began his career on the railway in 2002, working as an assistant driver of an electric locomotive at the Pomichna Locomotive Depot. His total work experience on the railway amounted to 21 years and 11 months.
Soldier Yurii was killed on May 18, 2022, while performing a combat mission to defend his homeland near the settlement of Toshkivka in Luhansk region. He was considered missing for a long time, but was identified as deceased following a genetic examination in May 2025.
Colleagues remember him as a disciplined and responsible worker. “Yurii was a mentor to the youth, willingly sharing his acquired work experience, and supporting and helping less experienced workers when needed,” says his instructor-driver, Maksym Novokhatko. “He was respected among the team.”
With the onset of the full-scale invasion in February 2022, Yurii voluntarily took up arms to defend Ukraine as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in a separate rifle battalion.
We express our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. Yurii is survived by his wife.
The team at the Pomichna Locomotive Depot of the regional branch “Odesa Railway” of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” deeply mourns this irreparable loss. This responsible assistant driver and mentor to the youth voluntarily went to defend his homeland, where he heroically fell. Nearly three years of waiting confirmed his sacrificial feat. Glory to the hero!
