Andriy SYRKO
Andriy was born and completed his general education at his native village of Streptiv in Lviv region. He studied at the Higher Vocational School No. 71 in the city of Kamyanka-Buzka. He worked as a trackman on the railway at the Kamyanka-Buzka railway distance of the regional branch "Lviv Railway."
The news of the full-scale war did not come as a complete surprise to Andriy, as he already had combat experience from participating in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO). He understood that the enemy would not limit its ambitions to the eastern borders of Ukraine. Therefore, on the very first day of the war, he volunteered to go to the front.
In the military, Andriy became a driver-mechanic in the technical maintenance section of the armored vehicle platoon of the 1st Mechanized Battalion of the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Daniel. As part of the unit, the railway worker bravely fought against the enemy in the hottest spots of confrontation alongside his comrades.
29-year-old Andriy Syrko was killed on March 14, 2022, near the city of Lyman as a result of a massive artillery shelling.
"Andriy was an ordinary, modest, and always smiling village boy," recalls Andriy Syrko's first teacher. "With his kindness and sincerity, he seemed to attract those around him like a magnet. He loved sports, sang beautifully, and cherished his family. His grandmother Aneliya would tell him stories in the evenings about how she experienced the charms of the Russian world in distant Siberia. This instilled in Andriy a love for his native land and hatred for the enemies. The boy grew up to be exceptionally determined, a true patriot of Ukraine."
Andriy Syrko was posthumously awarded the "Cross of the Hero" and the "For Courage" III degree, as well as the Honorary Badge of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine "Cross of the Brave."
Andriy is survived by his wife and son.
The team at the Kamyanka-Buzka railway distance of the regional branch "Lviv Railway" of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" mourns and honors the memory of Andriy Syrko with pride. His combat experience, the patriotism instilled by his family, and his decision to volunteer on the very first day of the war serve as an example for us all. We extend our deepest condolences to the wife and son of the Hero who heroically fell in Donetsk region. His bravery and earned awards are a lasting testament to his love for his homeland.
