Svitlana Shchutska
Svitlana was born in the city of Dnipro. She graduated from the local vocational school No. 27. She joined the railway in 2019 as a shift worker at the Dnipro railway crossing, where she worked until her death for 6 years.
Svitlana died on June 24, 2025, as a result of a massive rocket attack on the city of Dnipro. The railway worker found herself in the epicenter of one of the strikes.
According to her daughter Oleksandra, her mother was strong-willed, energetic, and proactive, and she loved order and cleanliness. She was valued at work and always tried to help everyone in need. "Mom valued education the most and urged us to study, to acquire in-demand specialties, so we could take our rightful place in life," says Oleksandra. "She also cooked wonderfully, inventing new recipes, and was a true homemaker."
In recent years, as my sister and I grew older, she decided to focus on herself, taking up physical exercise and a healthy lifestyle, and noticeably lost weight. We were very close, almost one whole. After starting my own family, I never left our parental home; we lived together side by side. It was important for me that my mom was always nearby. She had many hobbies, one of the main ones being the cultivation of coniferous plants and flowers. Our large garden and vegetable patch were her domain, a beautiful and cozy place among the firs, thujas, and junipers. She also loved animals; once, she rescued a dog near the crossing that had been hit by a train. The dog was almost hairless, but mom nursed it back to health. She always fed stray dogs and said it was necessary because they are living beings."
"Svitlana Shchutska was highly respected in the team and was a model of workplace relations for the other employees," said Serhiy Ulytskyi, the foreman of the Dnipro railway distance. "The 175 km crossing near the village of Yasne, where Svitlana worked, is always filled with flowers in summer, and there is always cleanliness and order. The dog she took to the vet and cared for was settled in a sturdy doghouse. Our Svitlana was a kind and bright soul."
We express our sincere condolences to Svitlana's family and loved ones. She is survived by two daughters.
The team of the Dnipro railway distance mourns this irreparable loss. Eternal memory and honor to our colleague.
